Game Introduction

A traditional reflection game played in West Africa

Known variously as Awele, Ayo, or Oware, Awale is a two-player Mancala game with similarities to East African games like Omweso, Bao, and Igisoro.

The game is played with 8 holes per player and 64 seeds.

Each player's territory consists of the row of holes closest to them.

The objective is to capture all or most of your opponent's seeds to prevent them from making further moves.

Other games in the Mancala family include Ayo, Kisoro, and Omweso.

Mancala games are believed to have originated in Ethiopia during the ancient Kingdom of Aksum.
