Scopely Acquires Niantic, Developer of Pokémon Go

Author : Nicholas May 02,2025

Today marks a significant milestone for Pokémon Go, not due to in-game events, but because of a major corporate development. Niantic, the creators of Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, and Peridot, has been acquired by Scopely, the developers behind the popular Monopoly Go! This acquisition means that Niantic's impressive catalog is now under the umbrella of Scopely and their parent company, Savvy Games Group.

The acquisition came with a staggering price tag of $3.5 billion. As part of this deal, Niantic's AR technology division will split off to form a new standalone company named Niantic Spatial. This new entity will continue to operate Ingress Prime and Peridot. For fans, the transition should be smooth with minimal disruption to service. However, this move signals a significant shift in the broader mobile gaming industry.
