Welcome to the "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" app, a project dedicated to showcasing and preserving the vibrant folk dance of Tamil Nadu known as Devarattam. This initiative is a heartfelt tribute to the legends of Devarattam, including the esteemed Kalaimamani awardees Mr. M Kumararaman, a retired teacher, and Mr. M Kannan Kumar, along with Mr. K Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti, who received the Kalaimani and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards respectively. This app is also dedicated to my revered Guru, Mr. E Rajakamulu, and other lovable legends of Devarattam.
The primary goal of the Devarattam app is to spread awareness about Devarattam and celebrate its awardees. Devarattam, a traditional dance form, has been performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community both in ancient times and today. This dance is characterized by its complex choreography, consisting of 32 basic steps, with additional steps ranging up to 72 that are variations of the fundamental movements.
In performances, dancers of Devarattam captivate audiences by holding a kerchief in each hand and wearing salangai (ankle bells) on each leg. They dance to the rhythm of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument, bringing the essence of this cultural art form to life.
