****** Objective******
The goal is to be the first to play all your cards and avoid being the last player holding cards.
****** Game play******
Players compete to empty their hands quickly. The last player left with cards is designated the donkey.
Using a standard 52-card deck (no jokers), cards are dealt entirely to players. Success means discarding all cards—the last player holding cards loses and earns the "donkey" title. All other players win.
The player holding the ace of spades begins the game by playing it. Turns proceed clockwise, with each player matching the lead suit if possible. You must follow suit when able, playing any card of that suit.
After all players contribute one card of the same suit, the round ends and those cards are discarded. The player who played the highest card of that suit leads the next round with any card from their hand.
If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card. This immediately ends play, and the player who played the highest card of the original suit must collect all played cards (the lead suit cards plus the off-suit card) into their hand. That player then leads the next round.
Gameplay continues this way until one player remains with cards. That player—the donkey—loses, while all others win.
