Euchre uses a 24-card standard deck and is played in teams of two.
When a player names a suit as trump, they commit their team to winning most tricks that round. Winning three or four tricks scores one point, while taking all five scores two. Failing to win three tricks is called being "euchred," and the opposing team gets two points.
A player with a strong hand can "go alone," attempting to win all tricks without their partner. In this case, the partner sits out. If the lone player wins all five tricks, the team scores four points. Winning three or four tricks scores one point. If euchred while playing alone, the opponents still receive two points.
The key rule in Euchre is that you are never forced to play a trump card unless it's the led suit, but you must follow suit whenever possible.
