The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) presents an exciting spelling adventure for kids aged 4 to 9 with the KCNK Little Bee Game. Sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU), this app offers a fun way to learn spelling in three engaging modes without needing an internet connection.
Each mode features 10 levels, with words getting progressively longer. Every level includes at least 15 words to master. The words remain the same across all modes for consistency.
In the Settings, students can input their name, age, parish, and school, then choose from Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, or Competition Mode.
Learning Mode 1 allows students to spell words by tapping letters from left to right. The app vocalizes each letter, helping kids learn as they go. If a mistake is made, it can be undone by tapping on it. To hear the word again, just tap the little bee icon at the top left. Students must spell each word correctly to advance and complete all words to finish a level. They can retry any level anytime, but must complete earlier levels before moving on.
Learning Mode 2 challenges students with jumbled letters. They must rearrange them to spell the word correctly. Like Mode 1, mistakes can be undone, and the word can be replayed by tapping the bee icon. Correct spelling is required to progress and complete each level, with the option to retry.
Competition Mode ups the ante by adding extra letters to the jumbled mix. Students are timed as they spell 10 random words from the level's pool. The goal is to complete each level as quickly as possible. The leaderboard on the main page displays the time spent on each level.
Students can reset the game anytime through the Settings page. They should wait for each letter to be fully called before selecting the next one. Parents and students can capture the leaderboard with a screenshot and share it with teachers.
