Mahjong School: Master Japanese Riichi Mahjong
Mahjong School helps you learn how to play Mahjong. Our focus is on teaching Japanese-style Mahjong, which is largely identical to the European (Riichi) and US styles. While it differs from Chinese, Hong Kong, or Taiwanese styles, mastering Japanese Riichi makes it easy to transition to other rule sets.
Mahjong School offers three tools to help you learn Japanese Mahjong.
1 The Mahjong Calculator.
Click to add tiles to your hand or declare TING, CHOW, PON, or CHI to form a winning hand. Set various conditions like DORA and self-draw. Once configured, the calculator will determine the Fu and Han of your hand and calculate your points, complete with detailed descriptions like hand names.
2 The Simplified Tutorial.
This tutorial lists all Han values with example hands and clear explanations.
3 Practice Mode.
Play Mahjong directly against an AI opponent. Designed as an entry-level challenge, the AI is friendly and perfect for learners. Practicing is the best way to learn Mahjong.
