11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has unveiled a fresh trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is drawing ever closer to its release date. In this latest reveal, the studio paused to honor one of their most celebrated works, the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim over a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing ambiance, The Alters takes a different approach with a more spirited and frequently humorous storyline. This new game focuses on the challenges faced by alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers stress a deep-seated link between these two titles.
Although The Alters and This War of Mine differ significantly in their settings and emotional tone, both games are fundamentally about survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the brutal realities of war, managing resources and facing daily struggles to keep their group of civilians alive within a besieged city. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a frantic race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape a merciless sun that threatens to turn everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, compelling them to explore hostile territories in search of vital resources. The main distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine tasks players with guiding a group of disparate civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the central character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated to launch in 2025, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, allowing a broad audience to dive into this innovative survival experience.
