Alienware has just unveiled its 2025 gaming laptop lineup, introducing the "Alienware Aurora" series. You can now purchase the first 16-inch models at Dell. The more budget-friendly Alienware Aurora 16 comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the other end of the spectrum, the premium Alienware Aurora 16X boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, available for $2,299.99. Both models are slated to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, there's an option to pre-order versions with RTX 5060 graphics, although these won't ship until the RTX 5060 is officially released.

The Alienware Aurora laptops stand out with a more understated design compared to other Alienware models like the Area-51, featuring a sleek and slim profile without the typical gamer aesthetics or excessive RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, only sports a minimalist white keyboard backlight reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their unassuming exteriors, these laptops are powered by robust gaming components and a high-efficiency Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16, with its lower voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and RTX 5070 graphics at 85W TGP, is slightly thinner and lighter than the 16X, which accommodates a more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 with a 115W TGP, resulting in a slightly thicker and heavier build.
Both the Aurora 16 and 16X are notably more affordable than the Alienware Area-51, which starts at over $3,000. They also offer enhanced portability, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and 30% thinner than the Area-51 16-inch model. Given the anticipated upward trend in Nvidia GPU prices as reported by Tom's Hardware, significant price drops in the near future are unlikely.
Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model
For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the superior choice. The additional $300 investment offers substantial upgrades that justify the cost. Here's what you get with the Aurora 16X:
- A superior display with 2560x1600 resolution and 240Hz G-Sync compared to the Aurora 16's 120Hz.
- A more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU versus the Intel Core 9 270H.
- A higher TGP rating for the RTX 5070 at 115W versus 85W.
- Double the RAM at 64GB and double the storage at 2TB.
- Enhanced build quality with metal on both the top and bottom, versus only the top on the Aurora 16.
- An RGB keyboard and Thunderbolt 4.0 connectivity.
