Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

Author : Blake May 07,2025

In the action-packed world of *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key to mastering the game. Anointing is one such method that can give you a significant edge. However, unlocking this feature requires some progression through the game, specifically to acquire Distilled Emotions, which you'll need for anointing.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing becomes available later in the game when you can access Distilled Emotions, crucial for upgrading your amulets and Waystones. These emotions are akin to the Blight Oils from the original game, with ten distinct types: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary source for Distilled Emotions is Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection upon completion. Alternatively, you can acquire these through currency exchange or the trade market. If you're looking to upgrade your Distilled Emotions, the Reforging Bench is your go-to spot. Here, combining three of the same type will yield an upgraded version of that emotion, giving you more control over your collection.

For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions, though this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to tackle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* currently applies to amulets and Waystones, with potential for more options in future updates given the game's Early Access status. To anoint an amulet, you'll first need to select a Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The choice of emotion here is flexible. Place your amulet in the central slot, followed by three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing effect are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, anointing isn't permanent. You can re-anoint your amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to adapt to your evolving build. The new skill will replace the old one, offering flexibility in your gameplay strategy.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty and potential loot rewards. However, keep in mind that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With these insights, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets and challenge yourself with anointed Waystones in *Path of Exile 2*, tailoring your gameplay to your preferred style and build.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
