A fraudulent Baldur's Gate 3 mobile port has surfaced on the iOS App Store, prompting a warning to players. This deceptive app, masquerading as a legitimate mobile adaptation, is free initially but demands a hefty $29.99 monthly subscription fee. Crucially, there is no official mobile version of Baldur's Gate 3.
The fake app, titled "Baldurs Gate 3 - Mobile Turuk" and developed by "Dmytro Turuk," employs modified screenshots from the actual game, overlaying a fabricated mobile HUD to enhance its deceptive appearance. Red flags include the omission of any reference to Dungeons & Dragons or Larian Studios, the game's actual developer.
Data Theft Concerns:
While the app's deceptive nature is apparent to many, its free initial download may lure unsuspecting users. The subscription fee is revealed only after installation. More alarmingly, the terms of service suggest the app may collect user IP addresses and other personal data. This isn't an isolated incident; similar Baldur's Gate 3 scams have appeared previously.
Currently, this particular fraudulent app hasn't been reported on the Android store, but vigilance is advised on both platforms. Remember, if an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is. Larian Studios has not announced any plans for a mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3. However, earlier installments in the series are available on mobile, and Baldur's Gate 3 can be streamed through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Anyone who has downloaded the fraudulent app should delete it immediately.
