Assassin's Creed Shadows' "Claws of Awaji" DLC Leaks Ahead of March Release
A Steam leak has prematurely revealed details about "Claws of Awaji," the first downloadable content (DLC) for Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows. The expansion, set in feudal Japan, promises a significant amount of new content.
Assassin's Creed Shadows, the first game in the franchise to be set in Japan, features dual protagonists: Yasuke, a Samurai, and Naoe, a Shinobi. The game's development has been plagued by delays and controversy, most recently a postponement of the release date to March 20, 2025.
The leaked Steam update, reported by Insider Gaming, detailed "Claws of Awaji's" key features: a new region to explore, a novel weapon type, fresh skills, new gear, and enhanced abilities. The DLC is expected to add over 10 hours of gameplay to the main game. Pre-ordering the game will reportedly grant access to both the DLC and a bonus mission.
This leak follows the game's recent delay announcement. Initially slated for November 15, 2024, the release was first pushed back to February 14, 2025, and then again to March 20, 2025, to allow for further polishing and refinement.
The delays and the recent speculation surrounding a potential Tencent buyout of Ubisoft add to the uncertainty surrounding the game's launch. Ubisoft has faced challenges recently with several high-profile titles underperforming. The success of Assassin's Creed Shadows, therefore, holds significant importance for the company's future.
