Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Exploring Immersive Mode

Author : Connor Apr 18,2025

The *Assassin’s Creed* franchise has always aimed to immerse fans in diverse cultures throughout history. With *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, Ubisoft takes a significant leap forward by enhancing immersion in 16th Century Japan. Here's an in-depth look at the game's new Immersive Mode.

What Does Immersive Mode Do in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

In most *Assassin’s Creed* games, character dialogue is modernized and not typically spoken in the native language of the setting. *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* follows suit, with occasional native language dialogue from NPCs, but the majority of the dialogue is in the player's selected language.

Immersive Mode in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* transforms the language settings to enhance authenticity and historical accuracy. When enabled, this mode locks the voiceover language to Japanese, reflecting the time and place of the game. Additionally, you'll hear Portuguese dialogue from Jesuits and Yasuke when interacting with them, further enriching the experience.

This feature significantly enhances the immersion and historical accuracy of *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*. While fans could achieve a similar effect in previous games by selecting language dubs, such as Arabic in *Mirage*, Immersive Mode represents a major advancement for the *Assassin’s Creed* series.

Should You Turn On Immersive Mode in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

The primary drawback of using Immersive Mode is missing out on the performances by the English voice cast. However, the Japanese and Portuguese voice actors are equally talented, ensuring a high-quality audio experience.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* offers comprehensive subtitle options, allowing players to read the dialogue in their preferred language. Immersive Mode can be toggled on or off in the audio settings menu at any time, requiring only a reload to the last save for the change to take effect. Unlike Canon Mode, you're not locked into your choice for the entire playthrough, making it easy to experiment with Immersive Mode.

If you're looking to experience *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* in the most authentic way possible, Immersive Mode is a fantastic option. It transports you back into history, and we hope to see similar features in future titles.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
