Summary

  • Recent Windows 11 updates caused launch issues for several Assassin's Creed games.
  • Patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Valhalla have been released, resolving the problem for those titles. Assassin's Creed Odyssey may still experience issues.

Players experiencing problems launching Assassin's Creed Origins and Valhalla after updating to Windows 11's 24H2 update can rejoice! Ubisoft has released patches addressing these compatibility issues. While these fixes are welcome news, some Ubisoft titles, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey, may still be affected.

The Windows 11 24H2 update, boasting features like Wi-Fi 7 support and AI Copilot+, inadvertently introduced compatibility problems for several games, notably within the Assassin's Creed franchise. These newly released patches should resolve the launch problems for Origins and Valhalla. Players can expect automatic updates via Steam, requiring approximately 230 MB and 500 MB of free space, respectively.

Windows Update 24H2 Continues to Impact Some Ubisoft Games

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. Although the patches for Origins and Valhalla are a positive step, reports of ongoing issues with other Ubisoft games persist. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, in particular, continues to present problems for some players. While previous hotfixes addressed major problems in Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some performance issues may still exist. Players of Assassin's Creed Odyssey are advised to delay updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a dedicated patch is available.

This issue highlights a concerning oversight. Reports of game compatibility problems emerged five months prior to the official 24H2 rollout, yet the problems weren't fully addressed before the update's release. This is particularly troubling given Microsoft's encouragement for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, the majority of games appear unaffected.
