Borderlands 4 Gears Up for Launch
Photo Mode Arrives in a Post-Launch Update
A photo mode is confirmed for Borderlands 4, though it will debut following the game's launch. In a June 25 post on Twitter (X), Creative Director Graeme Timmins shared that the feature was originally slated for day one but was deprioritized as the team concentrated on other critical gameplay components.
Timmins elaborated in a subsequent comment, “I prioritized refining other elements more central to the moment-to-moment player experience. We always intended to include photo mode and had it scheduled, but we needed to dedicate more time to aspects that would directly improve gameplay quality of life.”
Borderlands 3, the previous title, launched with photo mode in 2019, though console versions received it later. The developers have actively considered community feedback from the last game and worked to implement those requests.
More recently, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced that the team integrated a highly requested feature late in development. On June 20, via Twitter (X), Pitchford revealed that a combat radar will be available for players seeking additional in-game guidance.
This assist feature enhances spatial awareness, allowing players to detect enemy positions across the battlefield. Note that the combat radar is disabled by default and must be enabled in the settings menu.
Pitchford emphasized the value of community input, thanking “dedicated fans who genuinely want the best for the game and provided constructive feedback with well-reasoned arguments.”
New Official Story Trailer Unveiled at Borderlands Fan Fest
During Borderlands Fan Fest on June 21, Gearbox and 2K Games released a new story trailer, offering a deeper look into the game’s setting and narrative. The two-minute video outlines the player's journey on the planet Kairos.
The plot centers on The Timekeeper and his Order's oppressive rule over Kairos. As Vault Hunters, players must ignite a revolution to overthrow this regime. With support from Claptrap and the Crimson Resistance, you'll need to recruit allies, gather resources, and do whatever it takes to liberate the planet's inhabitants.

In contrast to Borderlands 3, this installment adopts a more serious tone, scaling back comedy in favor of grounded dialogue. It will be intriguing to see how the developers transition from their signature meme-heavy style to a world defined by totalitarian rule and weightier consequences.
Borderlands 4 launches on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. For the latest news and updates, be sure to check out our article below.
