After a remarkable 25-year hiatus, Capcom's cherished RPG, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to PC gaming. Originally gracing the PlayStation in Japan and North America back in 2000, followed by a European release in 2001, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. The story follows Ryu, a protagonist distinct from Capcom's other famous Ryu, who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a diverse group of warriors, Ryu embarks on a quest to thwart an emperor's sinister plans to devastate the world.
As part of its ongoing Preservation Program, GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV to suit modern PCs, offering a DRM-free experience on its platform. This enhanced version boasts full optimization for contemporary systems, ensuring seamless compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. Players can enjoy the game in either English or Japanese, with enhanced graphics courtesy of an upgraded DirectX renderer. New display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction elevate the visual experience. The audio engine has also received an upgrade, bringing back missing environmental sounds and introducing new configuration options for an immersive auditory journey.
