Butterfly, based on BOOM! Studios' graphic novel series created by Arash Amel, is a character-driven spy-thriller that dives deep into the complexities of family within the dangerous world of international espionage.
The story follows David Jung (played by Kim), a former U.S. intelligence operative living in South Korea whose life unravels when the fallout from a past decision returns with deadly consequences. He becomes the target of Rebecca (Hardesty), a lethal and unpredictable young agent working for Caddis, a shadowy global spy organization.
“Butterfly represents a long-held vision to unite American and Korean storytellers and craft a narrative that bridges two cultures I deeply cherish,” said Kim. “I’m thrilled with the creative team we’ve brought together both in front of and behind the camera, and I’m grateful to Ken Woodruff, Boom! Studios, 3AD, Amazon, and everyone involved for making this dream a reality.”
Ken Woodruff, known for his work on The Mentalist and Gotham, serves as showrunner and co-creator alongside acclaimed author Steph Cha. The supporting cast includes Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim, with guest appearances by Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa.
Executive producers include Woodruff and Cha alongside Daniel Dae Kim; John Cheng for 3AD; Stephen Christy and Ross Richie for BOOM! Studios; and Arash Amel for The Amel Company.
