The expansive map offers a variety of environments to explore, from dusty desert villages to frozen islands and dilapidated resort towns. As you navigate these diverse landscapes, you'll gradually uncover the origins of the virus.
One of the standout features in Darkest Days is the ability to use vehicles. From family cars to emergency vehicles like ambulances and police cruisers, you can find and utilize various types of wheels. Once you have a vehicle, you can plow through zombie hordes, and you can even upgrade these rides to withstand multiple crashes and swarms.
The zombies in Darkest Days are notably aggressive, with some moving in erratic patterns and attacking as if they're hunting you. You can take them down with precise shots or use explosives in a panic to fend them off.
Another highlight of the game is the shelter-building mechanic. You can construct a comprehensive base complete with facilities and recruit other survivors. These individuals can help you produce resources and provide support during combat.
