Disney Lorcana recently unveiled a wealth of exciting updates for the future of the trading card game, including details about its upcoming ninth set — Fabled — which is scheduled to release on September 5, 2025. This set will introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, along with the long-awaited arrival of characters from A Goofy Movie.
In addition to Fabled, new information was shared about the eighth set — Reign of Jafar — which launches on June 6, 2025. A brand-new Collection Starter Set was also announced, alongside key details regarding the Disney Lorcana World Championship. And yes — fans were treated to an exciting tease of Darkwing Duck joining the game in 2026.
Let’s dive into all the latest news and what it means for players and collectors alike.
Fabled: Introducing Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Formats
Although more details are still to come, the Fabled set has already generated significant buzz since its reveal. The official pre-release begins on August 29, followed by the wide release on September 5 — and fans are eagerly counting down the days.
One of the most anticipated additions in Fabled is the inclusion of A Goofy Movie characters, although the specific cards have not yet been revealed. However, we do know that Mickey and Minnie will debut as the very first Iconic Cards in the game.
Iconic Cards are the rarest type in the entire game, with only two appearing per set. These special cards feature stunning artwork of Mickey and Minnie on a carousel and are sure to become prized collectibles for every player.
Alongside these ultra-rare cards, Fabled introduces Epic Cards, which sit between Legendary and Enchanted rarity levels. These cards will showcase unique foil treatments and exclusive artwork — such as a new Elsa (Snow Queen) card — giving players more opportunities to obtain high-impact collectibles.
Another major shift in Fabled is the introduction of a rotating format for competitive play. In the top-tier format known as Core Constructed, cards from the first four sets will no longer be legal. This change aims to keep the meta fresh and encourage innovative deck-building strategies.
However, older cards won’t disappear entirely. A new format called Infinity Constructed will allow players to continue using their classic favorites. Additionally, Fabled will include reprinted versions of beloved early-set cards — such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard) — which will be fully playable in competitive formats, including Enchanted variants of popular choices.
“To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter,” said Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger. “But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”
For newcomers looking to jump into the world of Lorcana, the team has released a new Collection Starter Set. This set includes:
- Four Fabled booster packs
- A Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card
- A card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor)
- A collector's guide
Perfect for both collectors and beginners alike.
Reign of Jafar: Aladdin, Bambi, and a New Co-Op Experience
Set to launch in pre-release on May 30 and full release on June 6, Reign of Jafar marks the eighth set in the Disney Lorcana series. The storyline continues with Jafar now in possession of the Hexwell Crown, having corrupted Archazia’s Island to suit his dark ambitions.
The official description reads:
"Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will. Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."
Key Cards in Reign of Jafar Include:
- Bambi (Prince of the Forest)
- Flower (Shy Skunk)
- Thumper (Young Bunny)
- Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana)
- Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug)
- Aladdin (Vigilant Guard)
Additionally, fans can look forward to Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op experience-in-a-box designed for four players to work together against Jafar and his minions.
What Lies Ahead: Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck
During the final moments of the presentation, Disney teased the next major set following Fabled — titled Whispers in the Well — set to arrive in Q4 2025. While few details were shared, concept art reveals appearances by Mickey, Ariel, and hints at the potential inclusion of Disney Gargoyles in the game. There will also be a new type of Glimmer introduced.
Looking even further ahead, the team confirmed a long-requested addition — Darkwing Duck will officially join Disney Lorcana in 2026.
