Donkey Kong is back! Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, a remastered version of the 2010 Wii classic, launches today exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. This 2D side-scrolling platformer delivers a challenging yet creatively designed gameplay experience. Only the standard edition is available, but it includes the complete game. Note that Amazon availability may be delayed; recent Switch releases haven't been available for pre-order there.
What Awaits in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?
This isn't the first re-release for Donkey Kong Country Returns. Following its 2010 Wii debut, it appeared on the 3DS in 2013 with eight exclusive levels. The HD version includes all original Wii levels plus those eight extra 3DS stages.
The game maintains its challenging nature, but players can now select an easier mode (originally from the 3DS version) providing extra hearts and assistance.
Expect classic Donkey Kong gameplay: jumping, vine swinging, barrel blasting, banana collecting, and much more. Two-player couch co-op is also available after finding Diddy Kong.
