Dragon Quest XII: Development Update and Continued Assurance
Series creator Yuji Horii recently provided a reassuring update on the development of Dragon Quest XII during a livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku. According to Automaton's report, Horii confirmed that the Square Enix team is diligently working on the game.
This marks the first official update since May 2024, following the announcements of the passing of Akira Toriyama (character designer) and Koichi Sugiyama (composer). The news also comes after the departure of lead producer Yu Miyake, who transitioned to lead Square Enix's mobile game division.
Recent restructuring at Square Enix and a period without updates had sparked fan concerns about the game's status. However, Horii's statement effectively confirms that Dragon Quest XII remains in active development, with information to be released incrementally.
Announced as part of the franchise's 35th-anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest XII will be the first mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The recent success of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, surpassing 2 million copies sold, further underscores the ongoing strength and anticipation surrounding the series.
