Funcom, the developer behind the upcoming multiplayer survival game *Dune: Awakening*, has recently shared crucial details about the game's business model and post-launch strategy. The studio has confirmed that the eagerly anticipated release date of May 20 is set for the game's full launch, bypassing the traditional Early Access phase.
Inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel and its cinematic adaptations, *Dune: Awakening* will not require a subscription, despite its classification as a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game. Instead, Funcom plans to enrich the game through continuous free updates that will introduce new content, features, and enhancements. Additionally, the game will adhere to a "classic business model" by offering optional downloadable content (DLCs).
Drawing from their experience with other long-standing MMOs such as *Anarchy Online* and *Conan Exiles*, Funcom assures that *Dune: Awakening* will follow suit with ongoing support, ensuring that the game remains fresh and engaging through free updates, alongside paid DLCs and expansions, well beyond its initial release.
The standard edition of *Dune: Awakening* is priced at $49.99. For those looking for additional perks, the Deluxe Edition at $69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $89.99 offer a five-day head start and a variety of exclusive items. The Deluxe and Ultimate Editions include a Season Pass, granting access to four DLCs, with the first available at launch.
Purchasing the Deluxe Edition grants players the armor of the Sardaukar, the formidable military force from the game. The Ultimate Edition encompasses all Deluxe Edition content and adds Paul Atreides' iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set, complete with building pieces, placeables, and decorations.
Pre-ordering any edition of the game rewards players with a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, as well as the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, an in-base decoration featuring the iconic desert mouse.
Funcom has also detailed the PC features and system requirements for *Dune: Awakening*. The game supports advanced graphics technologies such as Nvidia's DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, AMD's FSR, and Intel's XeSS 2.
