FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

Author : Lucy Jun 18,2025

With less than 24 hours remaining until the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans are on the edge of their seats. Just when you thought the hype couldn't get any higher, a recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing might offer a sneak peek into what Nintendo has in store—particularly regarding its upcoming controller lineup for the Switch 2.

Spotted first on Famiboards and later reported by Nintendo-focused outlets like GoNintendo, this newly surfaced FCC filing—dated March 31—originated from Nintendo under product code "BEE-008." While speculation is still in full swing, many believe this could be an early look at the next-generation Pro Controller for the Switch 2.

It's important to note that Nintendo has not officially confirmed the existence of a new Pro Controller for the Switch 2. However, several features listed in the filing suggest it could indeed be the upgraded successor to the original Switch Pro Controller. These include Bluetooth connectivity and NFC support—both hallmarks of premium controllers in the current generation.

PlayOne standout detail from this filing—if it truly pertains to the Switch 2 Pro Controller—is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack. Unlike the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked such a port, both the PlayStation DualSense and Xbox Series X|S controllers feature one. Adding this functionality would mark a welcomed improvement for players seeking a more seamless audio experience without relying on Bluetooth or external adapters.

If true, this would represent a meaningful quality-of-life upgrade for Nintendo’s upcoming hardware. Past FCC filings have occasionally provided accurate glimpses into Nintendo’s roadmap, so while nothing is set in stone, there’s enough here to fuel excitement. Until further details surface—or time runs out—we’ll have to wait for tomorrow’s official presentation to know for sure.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to go live tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET across Nintendo’s official channels. The broadcast promises a “closer look” at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year, potentially including gameplay footage, release timing, and other key announcements.

Additionally, Nintendo has confirmed the event will last one hour. Following the Direct, two Treehouse: Live presentations showcasing hands-on gameplay will take place on April 3 and April 4, both starting at 7am PT. Stay tuned as we bring you all the updates as they happen.
