Firaxis will change Civilization 7 after a barrage of criticism

Following a less-than-stellar launch, the developers of Civilization VII are committed to significant improvements. Firaxis Games has acknowledged player feedback regarding the user interface and gameplay, and is actively working on solutions.

Currently, the game holds a 47% positive rating on Steam. While the core mechanics haven't drawn major criticism, players have voiced concerns about a simplified interface, missing features, and a perceived lack of content. In response, Firaxis has prioritized interface enhancements, focusing on improving map readability, refining menus, and creating a more intuitive user experience.

Upcoming additions include:

  • Multiplayer team creation capabilities.
  • New map types.
  • Customization options, such as renaming religions and cities.

A balance update (1.1.0) incorporating further improvements is slated for release in March. The full release of Civilization VII is scheduled for February 11th.

Many reviewers believe the game was released prematurely and requires substantial further development. The $70 price point has been a particular point of contention, with players feeling it doesn't currently reflect the game's quality. To regain the series' former glory, fans are hoping Firaxis will diligently address their concerns through substantial updates.

Civilization fans eagerly anticipate that Civilization VII will ultimately live up to the series' established reputation for excellence and meticulous detail. However, significant improvements are needed to reach that goal.
