Lizzy Caplan, the actress slated to star opposite Channing Tatum in the cancelled Gambit film, recently revealed details about the project's unique vision. In an interview with Business Insider, Caplan described the film as having "a really cool idea," elaborating on its intended tone.
Tatum's long-held ambition to portray the popular X-Men character was ultimately thwarted by the 2019 Disney-Fox merger, leaving the project scrapped. This experience, according to Tatum, was deeply impactful, leaving him "traumatized." However, he later made a surprise cameo as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Caplan confirmed her involvement in the Gambit film, stating that she had signed on and even participated in pre-production meetings with Tatum. "We got down the road, we were gonna shoot it," she said. "I think there was a start date.”
Producer Simon Kinberg previously hinted at the film's comedic direction, telling IGN in 2018 that it would have a "romantic or sex comedy vibe," reflecting Gambit's character. Caplan corroborated this, stating, "They wanted to do, like, a '30s kind of screwball romantic comedy set in that world, which would have been really fun."
The future of Tatum's Gambit remains uncertain, though Marvel Studios has confirmed the X-Men's impending arrival in the MCU. Last August, Ryan Reynolds' tweet of a high-quality Deadpool & Wolverine scene reignited fan speculation.
