God of War TV Series' Creative Team Undergoes Overhaul

The long-awaited God of War Live Action TV Series restarts anew as several producers depart from the project. Read on to find out more about the departure of the key figures and Sony and Amazon’s plans going forward.

God of War Live Action Series Reboots As WellGod of War Show Not Canceled

It was recently reported that the God of War TV series adaptation will be starting over as series showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have all left the project. Additionally, it was also reported that they had already made multiple scripts for the series. Regardless, Sony and Amazon have decided to go in a different creative direction.

Santa Monica Studio’s Creative Director, Cory Barlog, will remain as an executive producer for the TV series, as well as PlayStation Production’s Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Vertigo’s Roy Lee, and Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang. After all this, it's been confirmed that Amazon and Sony will now look to find a new showrunner and a new set of producers and writers to reboot the project’s direction and will not be canceling the project.

More to Come, Despite the Delays

The Amazon and Sony collaboration for the God of War TV adaptation was announced on a PlayStation podcast back in two thousand twenty-two, following its massively successful reboot that was released in two thousand eighteen. This is part of Sony’s focus to adapt their critically acclaimed video game franchises into films and TV shows, which led to the creation of PlayStation Production back in two thousand nineteen. Part of this announcement was a TV adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn with Netflix, and more adaptations were coming from older franchises that had a significant following.

Additional shows that have already been released are Naughty Dog’s Uncharted in two thousand twenty-two and the massively successful The Last of Us TV series in two thousand twenty-three, which will be having a second season in two thousand twenty-five. Other works released were the Gran Turismo film in two thousand twenty-three and the Twisted Metal TV series this year. Other projects that were already announced to be in development are Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the recently announced Until Dawn film to be released on April 25, two thousand twenty-five.
