This thrilling encounter follows the previously released Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 and Godzilla vs. Hulk #1. This new installment is a nostalgic trip back to a past era, specifically the post-Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars (1984) timeline. The story picks up shortly after Peter Parker's return from Battleworld, as he grapples with the newly acquired alien symbiote. He'll need every bit of his enhanced abilities to defend his city from the King of the Monsters.
Joe Kelly, recently announced as the writer for the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man relaunch, pens the script for Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1. The art is provided by Nick Bradshaw (known for his work on Wolverine and the X-Men), with cover art contributions from Bradshaw, Lee Garbett, and Greg Land.
Kelly shared his excitement, stating, "The moment I heard about a '80s-set Godzilla/Spidey crossover, I practically jumped for it! This comic is a chance to go all-out with two legendary characters, capturing the wild energy of that era. Nick Bradshaw perfectly embodies the absurdity and the vibe, while simultaneously giving Godzilla and Spidey (in his totally-normal-black-suit!) the respect they deserve. It's a love letter with a planet-shaking roar!"
This isn't the first superhero-Godzilla showdown. DC Comics recently published Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, with a sequel in development. However, while the DC series featured the MonsterVerse versions, Marvel's series showcases the classic Toho Godzilla.
This announcement follows the unveiling of IDW's Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, an anthology comic donating proceeds to wildfire relief.
Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 stomps onto the scene April 30, 2025. For more comic book news, check out our previews for Marvel and DC's 2025 releases.
