Jon Bernthal's Punisher is slated for a return in a Marvel special, following the conclusion of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. This standalone project, described as having a Guardians of the Galaxy style, will see Bernthal collaborating with We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green on the script.

Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, teased the project, calling it "a shotgun blast of a story" while retaining the emotional depth expected of a Frank Castle narrative.

The Punisher's one-shot special coincides with Marvel Television's plans to revive the Defenders on Disney+. This team, featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, previously appeared on Netflix before transitioning to Disney+ and becoming integrated into the MCU canon.

Winderbaum previously acknowledged the challenges of adapting comic book storylines for television, citing limitations in resources and production scale. However, he expressed significant creative enthusiasm for exploring these possibilities.

Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th, continues the Daredevil narrative from its Netflix origins, bringing back familiar faces like the Punisher and Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). This season's antagonist is revealed to be the artistically driven serial killer, Muse.
