Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the eagerly awaited GPS-based action-RPG for mobile devices, has been officially cancelled. However, fans of the series have a silver lining to hold onto, as Square Enix has confirmed they are diligently working on Kingdom Hearts 4.

Originally set to launch in 2024, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link promised an exciting new story set in the realm of Scala ad Caelum, continuing the epic battle against the Heartless. Unfortunately, in a statement shared on the game's X/Twitter account, Square Enix expressed their deep regrets to fans eagerly anticipating its release. The company cited challenges in delivering a service that would meet player expectations over an extended period as the reason for the cancellation, though specifics were not disclosed.

Play"We wish to convey our heartfelt apologies to everyone who has been looking forward to the start of service," the statement read. "Despite our efforts to develop and refine the game to ensure enjoyment for a broad player base, we concluded that it would be challenging to provide a satisfactory service in the long run, which led to our decision to cancel development.

"We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who supported and participated in the multiple closed beta tests. We deeply regret having to share this news."

Nevertheless, Square Enix reassured fans that the "Kingdom Hearts series will continue," and mentioned their ongoing efforts on Kingdom Hearts 4, encouraging fans to stay tuned for more updates.

PlayThis marks the first official update on the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 4 in months, since a brief, enigmatic hint back in January. Despite its reveal in September 2022 with a cinematic trailer, Square Enix has remained largely silent, keeping fans in suspense, a hallmark of the series.

Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark a significant shift, aiming to steer the narrative towards its conclusion after 22 years and 18 games.
