The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has secured John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its writers. These talented filmmakers, known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, are set to bring the iconic Hasbro board game to life on the big screen. The screenplay will be crafted by Daley and Goldstein, who also recently directed and wrote their original film Mayday. Their impressive resume also includes writing credits for The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The film will be produced by Margot Robbie under her production company, LuckyChap, adding another exciting project to her portfolio. The Monopoly movie has been a long-discussed project, with interest dating back to 2007 when Ridley Scott considered directing it. Over the years, various attempts were made, including a script by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski in 2011, and another version written by Andrew Niccol in 2015, with Kevin Hart and director Tim Story attached in 2019. However, none of these efforts materialized.
The current push for the film comes after Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, reigniting hopes that this version will finally make it past Go and into theaters. Fans of the classic board game and cinema alike are eagerly awaiting what Daley and Goldstein will bring to this much-anticipated adaptation.
