Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence for the Classic Action Title
Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has reportedly exceeded 200,000 units sold, demonstrating strong player demand despite initial technical hurdles and controversy. This success highlights a renewed interest in the unique action game, defying early criticism.
Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), the remaster was handled by Dragami Games. While the original developers weren't involved, Dragami Games implemented quality-of-life improvements and a significant visual upgrade.
The sales milestone, announced via a tweet from Dragami Games, encompasses all current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC. This achievement arrives several months after the September 2024 launch.
Celebrating Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Sales Triumph
Lollipop Chainsaw casts players as Juliet Starling, a cheerleader battling a zombie horde at her high school. Utilizing a chainsaw in fast-paced, hack-and-slash combat reminiscent of Bayonetta, players fight through waves of enemies and challenging bosses.
The original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 achieved even greater success, selling over one million copies. This initial popularity is often attributed to the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda (a renowned game designer) and James Gunn (director of Guardians of the Galaxy), who contributed to the game's narrative.
While future DLC or a sequel remains unconfirmed, the strong sales of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP signal positive prospects for remasters of more specialized games. This trend is further supported by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered across current platforms, bringing another Grasshopper Manufacture title to a modern audience.
