Wyatt Russell, known for his role as U.S. Agent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is determined to silence the skeptics surrounding the upcoming film, Thunderbolts. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Russell emphasized that he and his co-stars are committed to turning the movie into a standout success, drawing on his background in ice hockey to fuel his drive.
"We approached this project as a team, eager to make it uniquely ours and prove the doubters wrong," Russell stated. He further shared his personal motivation, saying, "With my athletic background, I'm ready to make those who think this movie will flop eat their words."
Russell highlighted the unique challenge of Thunderbolts, noting that it doesn't follow the traditional MCU formula of characters with established origin stories leading into the film. Instead, Thunderbolts features a lineup of anti-heroes without the mainstream recognition of icons like Captain America or Iron Man.
The cast includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov / Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Bob / Sentry / Void, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr / Ghost, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker / U.S. Agent. Russell pointed out, "These are characters who haven’t had much of their own in the Marvel universe, making Thunderbolts a fresh and exciting challenge."
He also reflected on the diverse career paths of the cast members, noting that many, including himself, David Harbour, and Sebastian Stan, had established careers before joining the MCU. "Most of us didn't start out in Marvel; we've had varied experiences," Russell explained, highlighting the unique blend of talents that contribute to the film.

Earlier this month, Sebastian Stan shared his own career journey before becoming the Winter Soldier in the MCU. Speaking to Vanity Fair, he revealed that a residuals payment of $65,000 from his role in the 2010 film Hot Tub Time Machine was a financial lifeline that came just in time.
"I was struggling with work," Stan admitted. "That residuals payment from Hot Tub Time Machine saved me." Following this, he landed the role of James "Bucky" Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger, alongside Chris Evans.
Stan has since reprised his role in several MCU films, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, multiple Avengers movies, and the recent Captain America: Brave New World. He is set to return as Bucky in the upcoming Thunderbolts. Additionally, Stan was part of the cast reveal for Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday, indicating that Bucky and other Thunderbolts members, including John Walker, will continue to be significant figures in the MCU.
