Don't Starve Together: Mobile Launch Confirmed, Netflix Deal Scrapped
Recent news brings both positive and negative updates regarding the release of Don't Starve Together. While the previously announced Netflix Games release is no longer happening, the good news is that the game is still coming to mobile devices!
Playdigious and Klei Entertainment are collaborating to bring the darkly whimsical survival experience to iOS and Android platforms via their respective app stores. The game, known for its Tim Burton-esque art style and challenging survival gameplay, will see a global launch. Although a precise release date remains unannounced, both developers have confirmed it's forthcoming.
The Netflix Fallout
The cancellation of the Netflix Games exclusivity deal raises questions about the future of indie games on the platform. The fact that a title as significant and well-regarded as Don't Starve Together didn't make the cut suggests a potential shift in Netflix Games' strategy. This, along with the removal of other indie titles like Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, casts doubt on their continued commitment to the indie development community. This is particularly concerning given that Netflix's strong indie catalog has been a major draw for many subscribers.
