As Nintendo prepares to launch its highly anticipated Switch 2 console this week, the company has issued an important advisory regarding the device's built-in screen protection.
Nintendo has published a downloadable PDF containing Switch 2 health and safety guidelines (via NintendoSoup), including crucial "Careful Usage" instructions. One key warning states: "The screen features a protective film designed to contain glass fragments in case of damage. Never remove this layer."
This permanent adhesive layer serves as a safety measure, preventing glass dispersion if the screen ever cracks. Removing it would compromise this protective function.
When unboxing your Switch 2 this week, exercise caution and resist the temptation to peel off what might appear to be temporary packaging.
Nintendo's guidelines also advise against using Switch 2 in "dusty or smoky environments" - meaning you'll want to avoid taking it to nightclubs or vintage bookstores.
The company additionally recommends: "Charge the built-in batteries at minimum every six months. Prolonged inactivity may permanently disable battery functionality." Hopefully your Mario Kart World addiction will make this precaution unnecessary.

Some warnings are more intuitive: "Avoid exposing devices to open flames, microwaves, direct sunlight, or extreme temperatures." Standard electronic device care, really.
After years of speculation and leaks, Nintendo will officially release Switch 2 this Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Reports emerged last month of early Switch 2 deliveries reaching some customers ahead of launch, with unboxing videos briefly appearing online before Nintendo's swift copyright actions removed them.
