The excitement surrounding The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 via the GameCube library does not dampen the hopes of fans eager for a full port. According to Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of product development, in a conversation with Kinda Funny's Tim Gettys, the availability of a game on Nintendo Switch Online does not preclude the possibility of it being remastered or remade for the new console. This is reassuring news for fans, especially since iconic titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, despite their popularity within the Zelda franchise, have yet to see a port on any Nintendo Switch platform.
Some fans have expressed concerns that the upcoming availability of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on Nintendo's premium subscription service, coinciding with the Nintendo Switch 2 release on June 5, might mean they'll never see a full remaster. However, Bihldorff's response to these worries was swift and clear: "All options are on the table." He emphasized that while nothing is confirmed, the presence of a game on Nintendo Switch Online does not rule out other forms of release, such as remakes or ports. This leaves the door open for a potential Wii U port of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker to the Nintendo Switch 2.
During last week's Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that GameCube titles would be added to the Nintendo Switch Online premium library, marking a significant expansion. Subscribers will soon enjoy a variety of classic 2000s-era titles, including F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur 2, and of course, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. These games will be available at launch this summer, with more titles like Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Strikers, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness promised for future additions.
