Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls not just in games, but also on the Home screen. Ever since the grand reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming community has buzzed with excitement and speculation about the capabilities of the new Joy-Con's mouse controls. Last month, we finally received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can operate in "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers across surfaces. This mode mimics a standard mouse, where the analog sticks serve as left-click and right-click functions. Moreover, players can use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at the same time, one in each hand, or mix one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode, offering versatile control options.

The latest update, showcased on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, further reveals that the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls extend their functionality to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. As demonstrated in a video shared by Stealth on May 11, 2025, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen," Nintendo explained. "To display the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown."

Nintendo also elaborated on the additional features of the mouse controls, stating, "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," and confirmed that these controls are usable on the Home menu as well as in compatible software. To revert to using the thumbstick, players simply need to reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the full list of games compatible with these mouse controls remains under wraps, Nintendo has already demonstrated the technology's effectiveness with the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, along with the unique wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

As anticipation builds, the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to make its much-awaited debut on June 5. Pre-orders for the console kicked off on April 24, maintaining a price point of $449.99. The pre-order launch was a resounding success, as detailed in IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide. For those eager to get their hands on this next-generation console, the excitement is palpable, and the future of gaming with Nintendo looks brighter than ever.
