The Nintendo Switch 2, revealed in a recent trailer, is significantly larger than its predecessor. While official dimensions remain unannounced, analysis of the trailer and a CES 2025 Genki mock-up provides strong estimations.
Estimated Switch 2 Screen Size:
The Switch 2 is estimated to boast an 8-inch screen (diagonal measurement, excluding bezels), approximately 177mm wide and 99mm tall. This represents a nearly 30% diagonal increase and a 66% larger area compared to the original Switch's 6.2-inch display. The increase is even more dramatic against the Switch Lite (45% diagonal, 111% area) and the Switch OLED (14% diagonal, 30% area). While larger than the original Switch OLED, the Switch 2's screen is still slightly smaller than the Steam Deck's 7-inch and 7.4-inch (OLED) displays.
Estimated Switch 2 Overall Console Size:
Based on the Genki mock-up, the Switch 2 is estimated to measure approximately 265mm long and 115mm tall, roughly 25% larger than the original Switch (239mm x 102mm). It's significantly larger than the Switch Lite (61%) but slightly smaller than the Steam Deck (12%). Thickness is expected to remain similar to the original Switch.
Estimated Switch 2 Joy-Con Size:
The Joy-Cons are estimated to be approximately 32mm wide and 115mm tall—the same width as the original but 13mm taller (a 13% increase).
Estimated Switch 2 Screen Unit Size:
Subtracting the Joy-Con dimensions from the overall console size suggests a screen unit of approximately 200mm long and 115mm tall, about 31% larger than the original Switch. This allows for relatively slim bezels.
Disclaimer: These measurements are estimations based on the Genki mock-up and trailer analysis. Official dimensions may vary. However, the estimations strongly suggest a noticeably larger console than its predecessor.
