Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Pokemon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected

Don't expect any reveals regarding Switch 2 Pokemon titles during the upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 unveiling, it appears the Pokemon franchise will remain on the original Switch for the time being. The focus of the February 27th presentation is heavily anticipated to be on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Although a next-generation Nintendo console is confirmed and will boast backward compatibility, official details remain scarce. Leaks paint a picture of a more powerful, larger Switch iteration. While future Pokemon games will undoubtedly grace the Switch 2, the upcoming Pokemon Presents will reportedly showcase titles developed for the original Switch. Thanks to backward compatibility, these games will also be playable on the new hardware.

No Switch 2 Pokemon News Expected

The February 27th Pokemon Presents will likely feature updates on existing live-service titles like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. Significant attention is expected to be given to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year. While a teaser trailer hinted at a Lumiose City setting, returning Pokemon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, much remains unknown. Speculation also points towards another mainline Pokemon game launching this year, separate from Legends: Z-A and Generation 10.

Potential candidates for this additional title include Pokemon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment. Leaks suggest these, too, would launch on the original Switch, further supporting the idea that Generation 10 will be the first major Pokemon titles exclusive to the Switch 2.

This strategy aligns with past Pokemon releases. Similar to Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 launching on the original DS instead of the 3DS, the franchise may prioritize established hardware with a larger user base. However, until official confirmation arrives during the February 27th Pokemon Presents, this remains speculation.
