Star Wars fans are eager to delve into the universe beyond "The Rise of Skywalker," and while Shawn Levy's "Star Wars: Starfighter" remains on the horizon, a new young adult novel, "Star Wars: The Last Order," will soon provide a fresh narrative in the aftermath of the 2019 film. This novel, announced by Penguin Random House, focuses on the beloved characters Finn and Jannah, portrayed by John Boyega and Naomi Ackie, respectively, in "The Rise of Skywalker."
In "Star Wars: The Last Order," penned by Kwame Mbalia, the story unfolds immediately after the events of "The Rise of Skywalker." The Resistance, led by Finn and Jannah, rescues a ship filled with young passengers who were abducted by the First Order. Their mission is to track down the responsible First Order officer before more children are endangered. As they embark on this quest, Finn and Jannah must confront their own tumultuous histories as former stormtroopers, adding depth to their journey.
"Star Wars: The Last Order" marks the inaugural exploration of the Star Wars universe post-"Rise of Skywalker," although it wasn't the first project announced to do so. Shawn Levy's upcoming film, set to release later, will also continue the saga, expanding on the timeline established by the Skywalker saga. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy shared insights on Levy's project, stating it would be a standalone story set five or six years after the events of "The Rise of Skywalker." Jonathan Tropper, the writer involved with the film, recently expressed his eagerness for its release, hinting at an imminent launch. The film, starring Ryan Gosling, is slated to premiere on May 28, 2027, as announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan.
