Rainbow Six Siege X has launched its Closed Beta, featuring the exciting new 6v6 game mode, Dual Front. Dive in to discover more about Dual Front and what to expect from the Closed Beta test.
Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Revealed New Details for the Update
Closed Beta Begins March 13, 2025
Ubisoft has announced on their official website that Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will commence its Closed Beta test on March 13th at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, right after the R6 Siege X Showcase concludes, and will run until March 19th at the same times.
Gamers can secure access to the R6 Siege X Closed Beta by tuning into the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or through selected Content Creators' Twitch livestreams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The Closed Beta will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms, featuring the innovative Dual Front game mode.
However, some players have reported issues with not receiving the anticipated email containing the access code for the R6 Siege X Closed Beta. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged this problem on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve and send out the necessary emails as soon as possible.
It's important to clarify that R6 Siege X is not a standalone new game but a significant update aimed at elevating Siege with comprehensive graphical and technical enhancements.
New 6v6 Game Mode Dual Front
Ubisoft introduces Dual Front, a dynamic new 6v6 game mode designed to enhance the core gameplay experience of Rainbow Six Siege. According to the official website, Dual Front will bring "foundational upgrades to the core game, including visual enhancements, an audio overhaul, rappel upgrades, and more," alongside revamped player protection systems and free access, allowing players to experience the tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege without any cost.
The mode will be set on a new map called District, where two teams of six Operators will engage in simultaneous attack and defense of enemy sectors. This innovative approach will introduce new strategic possibilities through gadget combinations and tactical ingenuity.
While Dual Front is a new addition, the classic Siege mode, now renamed "Core Siege," will also be available. This mode will feature five updated maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, each boasting double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and improved destructible materials. Initially, only these five maps will be modernized, with plans to introduce three more per season.
Free Access Starting Season 2 of Year 10
Rainbow Six Siege will become free-to-play starting from Season 2 of Year 10, aligning with the trends set by its major competitors. Originally released in 2015 amidst a landscape dominated by paid multiplayer titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Battlefield Hardline, Siege is now adapting to the live-service model prevalent in today's gaming industry.
During the R6 Siege X Showcase event in Atlanta on March 13, Siege Game Director Alexander Karpazis shared with PC Gamer that the team's goal is to make the game more accessible to new players. "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special," Karpazis explained. He further added, "That reduces the barrier to entry because honestly, Siege is at its best when you've got friends playing with you."
The free access will include game modes such as Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front. However, Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will remain exclusive to those who purchase the premium access. This approach, as mentioned by former game director Leroy Athanassoff in a 2020 interview with PC Gamer, aims to deter smurfs and cheaters. "Having that barrier to Ranked or Siege Cup means you have to be committed to the game. It does mean we weed out smurfs, and it means we're prepared to continue supporting the most competitive aspect of the game," he said. Karpazis echoed this sentiment, stating, "It is, in our opinion, the best of both worlds where you can bring in new players but also have this place where veterans feel super competitive and committed to the game."
Siege 2 Was Never On The Table
Contrary to what some might expect, Karpazis revealed that the team never considered developing Siege 2, even as the game celebrated its 10-year anniversary. While competitors like Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2 opted for sequels, R6 Siege chose a different path, focusing on what's best for the game and its community.
"We just had to do what was right for Siege and what was right for players as well," Karpazis explained. "When we go back in time three years ago, that was the main focus for us." Siege X, which has been in development for about three years alongside regular seasonal updates, aims to set the stage for the next decade of Siege. "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far," Karpazis stated.
He emphasized the critical role of the community in the game's longevity, saying, "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."
Rainbow Six Siege X is scheduled for release on June 10, 2025, and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest on Rainbow Six Siege by checking out our dedicated article below!
