A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 may launch by late 2025, alongside reports of next-generation enhancements for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
According to GameReactor, sources familiar with Rockstar's plans suggest both a Switch 2 port and a performance-boosting patch for current-gen systems (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) are in development.
While specifics remain limited, GameReactor's insiders indicate these releases could arrive as early as this year.
The news aligns with Nintenduo's recent report claiming Rockstar aims to deliver the Switch 2 port within Take-Two's current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2026. Whether it will be a digital-only release or receive a physical edition remains uncertain.
We hailed Red Dead Redemption 2 as a "masterpiece" upon its 2018 debut, granting it a perfect 10/10 score. IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review praised it as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."
A Switch 2 release wouldn't be entirely unexpected. During Take-Two's post-earnings investor Q&A, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed strong enthusiasm for Nintendo's upcoming hardware, noting improved third-party publisher support compared to past Nintendo platforms.
"We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2—a more substantial lineup than we've ever offered for a new Nintendo system," Zelnick stated. "While being a third-party publisher on Nintendo platforms has historically presented challenges, we see promising opportunities this time. We carefully evaluate each title's platform suitability, but we're optimistic about the Switch 2's potential for catalog titles."

Take-Two's confirmed Switch 2 lineup includes Civilization 7 (June 5 launch day), various NBA 2K and WWE 2K entries (unspecified titles/dates), and Borderlands 4 (September 12). While these follow existing Switch support, Zelnick's comments leave room for potential back-catalog additions—perhaps Grand Theft Auto V or Red Dead Redemption 2 could follow, though GTA 6 seems unlikely.
