Save on Like-New PlayStation Portal for PS5 Handheld Play

Author : Chloe Dec 22,2025

The PlayStation Portal launched in November 2023, and even during Sony's Days of Play Sale in June, I have never seen a discount on a brand-new unit. Fortunately, there is a way to purchase a used one at a significant discount. Amazon Resale has just reduced the price of a "Used: Like New" PlayStation Portal to $140.41, with a 25% discount automatically applied at checkout. As Amazon's official outlet for pre-owned products, "Like New" items are typically unused, with the packaging showing minor damage while the product remains in perfect condition. You also benefit from Amazon's 30-day return policy, making this a much more secure option than purchasing a used controller from Facebook Marketplace.

The PlayStation Portal, Sony's handheld gaming accessory designed for the PS5, closely resembles an extended split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen in the center. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device by enabling you to stream games from the console at up to 60fps. The controller mirrors the full feature set of the DualSense, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface that takes the place of the DualSense touchpad. The Portal even allows game streaming outside your home—provided you have a stable, high-speed internet connection. Keep in mind that the PlayStation Portal is not a standalone device. It functions exclusively as a remote player for the PlayStation 5, meaning you'll need a PS5 console to use it.

Recently, Sony introduced a feature enabling Portal users to stream games directly from the PlayStation Now cloud streaming service—no PS5 required. This opens up access to a library of over 120 titles, including Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Subscribers to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus can enjoy this service for $18 per month, offering a more budget-friendly alternative to purchasing each new game individually.

It’s worth mentioning that the PlayStation Portal isn’t the only option for streaming PS5 games over Wi-Fi within your home. You can replicate its functionality by installing the PS Remote Play app on a mobile device or other handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, the setup tends to be more complex, and you may lose access to some of the unique DualSense features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy

"I approached the PlayStation Portal with a good deal of skepticism, but it ended up being one of the most surprisingly satisfying devices I’ve ever used. The experience is far superior to using a phone with an attached controller, and it performs better than I ever expected. I truly appreciate the freedom it offers, letting me enjoy my PS5 from anywhere with solid Wi-Fi—especially helpful when my family is using the TV to play the Switch. While it is entirely dependent on a PlayStation 5 and not a standalone system, the Portal's primary limitations are its inability to connect to Wi-Fi networks that require browser-based login and its lack of Bluetooth audio support. For now, it represents the best Remote Play solution available for PS5 gamers. Were it not for these two constraints, I’d consider the PlayStation Portal essential for every PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming—or simply needs access to the TV."
