The Last of Us has solidified its place as one of the most acclaimed TV adaptations in recent memory, with Season 3 greenlit even before Season 2 officially began production. But what lies beyond that? Fans are already wondering whether there will be a Season 4—and according to showrunner Craig Mazin, it's not just possible, it may be necessary.
In an interview with Collider, Mazin addressed the challenge of concluding the entire story within just three seasons. He explained that attempting to wrap up everything in Season 3 "would take forever," making it logistically impractical. While Season 3 might be longer than Season 2—a "decent chance," as he put it—it still wouldn’t be enough to fully close out the narrative.
Mazin went on to say, “Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish it in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome.”
