Following Nintendo’s handheld triumph with the Switch 2, Sony is enhancing its PlayStation Portal’s capabilities, enabling users to stream thousands of games without a direct connection to a PS5 console.
Starting today, PlayStation Plus Premium members can stream an extensive library of games they already own, including major titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Borderlands 4, and the recently released Ghost of Yōtei.
Additionally, hundreds of games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog are now streamable, featuring popular titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077, and God of War Ragnarök. Sony has published a comprehensive list of supported titles, totaling over 2,800 games.
While cloud streaming via the PlayStation Portal has been available in beta for nearly a year, today marks its official launch. Sony emphasizes the diverse gaming possibilities the handheld device offers.
Ownership of a Portal alongside a PS5 allows for more than just mobile gaming. Users can play co-op games with friends using the main TV and PS5 setup, or enjoy gaming while others watch content like KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix.
Cloud streaming exits beta with several new features, including 3D Audio Support, a passcode lock, a network status screen, game invites, accessibility options, and the ability to make in-game purchases during cloud sessions.
The PlayStation Portal is available for $199 in white or black. According to IGN’s review, it is “the best PlayStation 5 Remote Play solution available.”
