Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with a monumental update, version 2.0, set to launch on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to reach the level of popularity that Supercell had hoped for. With this update, the developers are aiming to rejuvenate the game and attract a broader audience.
This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two
Squad Busters 2.0 represents a significant overhaul, essentially rebooting the game. The changes are extensive, touching on every aspect from battle mechanics to victory conditions.
One of the most notable updates is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad into battle. These Heroes are inspired by existing characters, and the stakes are high: if your Hero falls, you lose the match.
Combat dynamics have also been revamped. Players no longer need to halt their movement to engage in battle; instead, movement and combat are seamlessly integrated, resulting in more dynamic, fast-paced, and chaotic gameplay.
The victory conditions have shifted as well. Instead of eliminating all opponents, victory is achieved by taking down the enemy Hero. This change has drawn comparisons to Brawl Stars, sparking discussions among the player base about the game's direction.
Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features
Several game modes are being removed, including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder. Additionally, certain skins and progression systems are being phased out. To mitigate any disappointment, Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items.

Supercell's rapid implementation of these changes underscores the urgency to boost Squad Busters' appeal. The game has yet to reach the heights of Supercell's other hits like Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars.
As the first anniversary approaches on May 29th, Supercell is pulling out all the stops to reignite player interest. They're planning a series of daily piñata events, which will offer players the chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
