Square Enix, publisher of Dragon Quest, appears poised to bring back another beloved entry – Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past.
As reported by MP1st, leaked internal documents reveal multiple unannounced projects underway, including a remake of Dragon Quest VII.
Notably, while other remakes in the documents are labeled as *HD* Remakes, this project lacks that designation – suggesting more significant changes than just visual upgrades. The exact nature of these enhancements remains unclear until official details emerge.
The leaked timeline indicates this Dragon Quest VII remake will launch between early 2026 and 2027, aligning with Square Enix's upcoming fiscal planning.
In related Dragon Quest updates, remember that the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake arrives October 30, 2025 for PC (via Steam/Microsoft Store), PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. Square Enix recently confirmed the RPG will also release on Nintendo Switch 2. Fans can also explore pre-order bonuses and details about an upcoming Collector's Edition.
Series creator Yuji Horii has assured fans that Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate remains in development, despite the prolonged silence since its 2021 announcement – marking the first new mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest 11. In February, Horii broke his silence to confirm Square Enix's development team remains "working hard" on the project.
"I truly can't share specifics yet," Horii stated in May. "We're pouring tremendous effort into this next installment – I can only promise it will be exceptional. Please remain patient and excited."
