Star Wars Hunters Announces Shut Down Just 9 Months After Launch, Steam Release Appears Scrapped

Author : Evelyn Nov 14,2025

In a surprising turn of events, Zynga has announced the full shutdown of *Star Wars Hunters*, just nine months after its initial release. Originally launched in June 2024 for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, the free-to-play team-based arena brawler developed by NaturalMotion will cease operations on October 1, 2025. The final content update is scheduled for April 15, 2025, after which no further updates or in-game purchases will be available.

IGN’s Star Wars: Hunters review awarded the game a 7/10, describing it as “Impressive for a bit, but probably not a place you’ll want to hang around for too long.” That assessment now appears remarkably accurate. In a statement, Zynga said the decision was made after “careful consideration” and expressed gratitude to the community, acknowledging the disappointment players may feel. The team emphasized their commitment to transparency throughout the wind-down process.

Final Season and Extended Gameplay

To give players more time to enjoy the game, Season 5 will be extended by three weeks, starting March 25. During this period, Zynga will re-run popular events and shop bundles, while also extending the Ranked Season to allow more opportunities to reach the top Kyber 1 rank.

The final update on April 15 will introduce Tuya as a new Support Hunter, available to all players at no cost. Additional in-game content will be included, and the final Ranked Mode leaderboard will remain active. All game modes and battlefields will continue to rotate, offering full access until the servers go offline.

PC Version Scrapped

Plans for a Steam early access release have been officially canceled. Although Zynga previously announced the PC version with excitement—marking a milestone as the company’s first console and PC expansion—the game has been removed from the Steam store. A notice now confirms that *Star Wars Hunters* is “no longer available on the Steam store,” with no further details provided about future availability.

Zynga’s Broader Strategy

As a Take-Two Interactive subsidiary, Zynga is best known for mobile hits like *FarmVille*, *Words with Friends*, and *CSR Racing*. *Star Wars Hunters* represented a strategic move into console and cross-platform publishing. Despite strong initial momentum and fan demand for a PC release, the game ultimately did not sustain long-term viability.

The Future of Star Wars Games

While *Star Wars Hunters* comes to an end, several other Star Wars titles remain in development. Respawn Entertainment is working on the third installment of the *Star Wars Jedi* series, and Bit Reactor is preparing a turn-based tactics game set for reveal at Star Wars Celebration 2025. Fans looking for new galactic adventures will still have upcoming experiences to anticipate.
