DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, bringing acclaimed Marvel writer Dan Slott back to DC. Slott, known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, returns to DC after a two-decade Marvel exclusivity.
Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.
Slott states, "He's the greatest superhero, and I've waited my whole life to tell his stories. Rafael and I will take him—and you—to incredible places monthly. Millions of ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic villains, and brand-new characters. Whether you're a lifelong fan or a newcomer, this is the perfect entry point."
The series introduces a perilous new reality. A Kryptonite asteroid shower arms Intergang with Kryptonite-based weaponry, forcing Superman to develop new technology and strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares the series to Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman, stating it will deliver classic Superman adventures while introducing a massive new Kryptonite deposit. He describes a world where even petty criminals wield Kryptonite weapons, presenting unprecedented danger for Superman and his allies.
Kaminski further notes the contrast with Justice League Unlimited's focus on heroes, while Superman Unlimited centers on super-villains empowered by ubiquitous Green K, forcing Superman to adapt for survival. He highlights Slott's surprising plotlines and Albuquerque's stunning artwork, promising a phenomenal 2025 for Superman.
A 10-page prelude appears in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (May 3, 2025), followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding James Gunn's Superman film (July 11).
