Author : Oliver Apr 03,2025

Sydney Sweeney, known for her roles in HBO's "Euphoria," "The White Lotus," "Reality," "Anyone but You," and the recent superhero film "Madame Web," is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to star in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the iconic anime and toy franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam. This exciting development was reported by Variety, although specific details about her character and the plot remain under wraps.

In February, it was announced that production for the live-action film had commenced, with Bandai Namco and Legendary entering into a co-financing agreement. The film, which has yet to receive an official title, will be helmed by Kim Mickle, the showrunner of "Sweet Tooth." While no release date or plot specifics have been disclosed, a teaser poster has been released to build anticipation among fans.

Legendary and Bandai Namco have expressed their commitment to providing updates as details are finalized. The original "Mobile Suit Gundam" series, which first aired in 1979, revolutionized the genre of 'real robot anime.' It moved away from the traditional narratives of clear-cut good versus evil, instead offering realistic portrayals of war, detailed scientific explorations, and complex human dramas. The series treated robots as 'weapons' known as 'mobile suits,' sparking a significant cultural phenomenon.

Sweeney's involvement in the project adds another high-profile venture to her growing list of credits. Last month, she was also attached to star in and produce a film adaptation of a horror story originally posted on a Reddit thread, showcasing her versatility and rising influence in the entertainment industry.
