- Tribe Nine's latest update has been canceled, and its end-of-service has been officially announced.
- Game servers will be taken offline on November 27th.
- Paid Enigma Entities will be refunded, and all in-game purchases have been suspended.
It isn't often that I'm genuinely taken aback, but I believe many will share my surprise upon learning that Tribe Nine is closing down. A recent announcement confirmed that the game's servers will be shut down on November 27th, and all future updates have been canceled.
This marks a disappointing conclusion for Tribe Nine, which just months ago celebrated surpassing ten million downloads. Inspired by the anime of the same name and featuring artwork by Danganronpa's renowned Rui Komatsuzaki, the game blended standard action-RPG mechanics with distinctive "Xtreme Baseball" boss fights, a nod to the original series.
The abrupt termination of Tribe Nine is part of a worrying pattern in recent years, where numerous games are discontinued less than a year after launch. For dedicated players, this trend makes it difficult to fully invest in new titles, with the constant risk of an early shutdown always present.
Left in the LurchGiven that Rui Komatsuzaki's artistic work also appears in the well-received Hundred Line -Last Defence Academy- on other platforms, it's puzzling why Tribe Nine was pulled so quickly. However, discontinuing a game shortly after release could harm the reputation of developer Akatsuki Games.
With another anime-based project, Kaiju No.8: The Game, on the way, the studio is likely counting on drawing in existing fans of the franchise. Still, more cautious players may hesitate to commit, concerned about a repeat scenario. Regardless, this is certainly disappointing news for the Tribe Nine community.
Thankfully, there are plenty of other excellent titles to explore. For fresh recommendations, take a look at our latest feature listing the top five new mobile games to try this week.
